About the NPMHU Supplemental Pension
Mail Handlers represented by the National Postal Mail Handlers Union (NPMHU) have a unique two-pension retirement system:
- FERS Pension: Your primary federal retirement benefit, calculated based on your High-3 salary and years of service
- NPMHU Supplemental Pension: An additional pension negotiated by your union, typically providing $15 per month for each year of service (subject to change based on negotiations)
Important Notes
- This calculator provides estimates based on current FERS rules and NPMHU plan provisions
- The NPMHU supplemental pension requires at least 5 years of service to be vested
- Always consult with your agency's HR department and union representatives for official calculations
- The NPMHU benefit rate can change based on contract negotiations - verify current rates with your union
- Both pensions are separate and you'll receive separate payments in retirement
- Consider non-financial factors such as survivor benefits and healthcare coverage in your retirement planning
